Authentic French cuisine in a rural Kent hamlet
Froggies at The Timber Batts restaurant in the hamlet of Bodsham near Wye in Kent is a little corner of England that will be forever France, especially if chef/proprietor Joel Gross has anything to say about it. It is an authentic French restaurant with French cuisine, mostly French wine and staff deep in the Kentish countryside with celebrations for Bastille Day, a petanque court and decorative frog ornaments everywhere. Joel made a huge reputation for himself with Froggies in Wye, then moved it to this unspoilt spot.

The Timber Batts is a 15th century pub, built in the reign of Henry VII and is set in a hamlet in unspoilt and spectacular Kent countryside at Bodsham, near Wye, Ashford.
The beamed and timbered bar has    an inglenook fireplace the size of a small room and, on a lower level, a reception bar with a large open fire.
The restaurant has its own huge fireplace, more beams, plus old pine tables (some with low back settees) and candles. Favourites include superb stuffed mussels, a classic duck confit salad, perfect rack of lamb with herbs, and prime fillet of beef with Roquefort sauce amongst others.
The Mobile Food Guide
The Mobile Food Guide is an up-to-the-minute online fine dining restaurant guide. It lists only the world's top restaurants and use the same selection criteria worldwide to provide continuity and balance. Froggies at The Timber Batts entry can be found here.
Telegraph Pub Guide
Telegraph Pub Guide
Usually when you leave a pub, the landlord doesn't kiss you on both cheeks and say: "Merci beaucoup. A la prochaine." A non-committal "Bye now" is about as good as it gets. But not at the Timber Batts.

Despite being tucked away in the sleepiest of Kent countryside, it has completely French bar staff, sports a tricolore alongside a Union Jack, and runs a restaurant which positively rejoices in the name of Froggies. Read the full Telegraph review here.

Gourmet Britain

Find the Timber Batts pub, deep in the countryside between Canterbury and Ashford. The building dates from the 16th century, and having been through stages off involvement with the local hop-growing industry, became an inn in the 19th century. It has all the beams and fripperies we associate with unspoilt pubs.

On the food front, what's on offer wouldn't be out of place in a small French brasserie.

So expect 'Moules Mariniere'; 'St. Jacques au bacon' (scallops) and 'Potage du Jour' to be among the starters.

Confit de Canard'; 'Filet de Boeuf Grillé' and 'Carré D'Agneau Roti' among the mains.

Desserts are traditional, with probably 'Crème Brulée'; 'Profiteroles' and 'Tart Tatin' among the offerings.

The cooking is accurate, and a good time seems to be had by all!
