Authentic French cuisine in a rural Kent hamlet
|
 |
|
| Proprietor and chef Joel Gross built up a great reputation at Froggies Restaurant in Wye, so when he headed deeper into the Kent countryside to the remote, 15th-century Timber Batts, his customers followed and were joined by hundreds more. The Timber Batts is a 15th century pub, built in the reign of Henry VII and is set in a hamlet in unspoilt and spectacular Kent countryside at Bodsham, near Wye, Ashford. |

The beamed and timbered bar has an inglenook fireplace the size of a small room and, on a lower level, a reception bar with a large open fire. |

The restaurant has its own huge fireplace, more beams, plus old pine tables (some with low back settees) and candles. Favourites include superb stuffed mussels, a classic duck confit salad, perfect rack of lamb with herbs, and prime fillet of beef with Roquefort sauce amongst others.

Usually when you leave a pub, the landlord doesn't kiss you on both cheeks and say: "Merci beaucoup. A la prochaine." A non-committal "Bye now" is about as good as it gets. But not at the Timber Batts.
Despite being tucked away in the sleepiest of Kent countryside, it has completely French bar staff, sports a tricolore alongside a Union Jack, and runs a restaurant which positively rejoices in the name of Froggies. Read the full Telegraph review here. |

FROGGIES LISTED IN TWO MICHELIN GUIDES
The format of the Michelin Great Britain & Ireland Guide means that it offers readers an unrivalled selection of hotels and restaurants to suit all pockets, in a compact sized book. The Guide includes Froggies at
The Timber Batts and many other fine restaurants and pubs all regularly inspected by Michelin's own team of professional inspectors.
Each entry in the Michelin Eating Out in Pubs guide features an in-depth description and colour photograph, and there is information on typical dishes and specialities, the beer they serve - including real ales, and symbols to denote particularly interesting wine lists and choice of wines by the glass.
